Incumbent’s Report, June 8, 2025
If I thought that things would calm down after Easter, I was sorely mistaken. As I explained at the time, the lead-up to our bishop election on May 3 was extremely stressful, but I’m pleased with the eventual outcome and look forward to working with Bishop-Elect Victor-David Mbuyi Bipungu for the good of the Diocese in the coming years.
A week after the election, we had our big Capital Campaign Planning & Prioritizing Meeting on May 10, emerging with an organized list of projects in order of urgency, and an ambitious goal for a potential campaign to cover them all – $1.5 million. Will we actually be able to raise that amount? That’s another question (see the separate FAQ document)!
Meanwhile, I just wrapped up leading a three-part seminar on the Nicene Creed, which was tremendous fun with over a dozen enthusiastic participants.
The regional youth group concluded its program year with a BBQ at Christ Church Beaurepaire on May 30 – it’s been a joy to steward this group along with Peter Lekx this year!
I also attended three (3!) Inductions in May – Tyson Røsberg in the Eastern Townships, Trevor Potter at St. John the Baptist, Pointe-Claire, and Jonathan Schmidt at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
May wrapped up in fine style with the annual Garage Sale and a parish BBQ – wet and chilly weather did not daunt us!
In June and July, I’ll be traveling to Williamstown, Massachusetts, for my 25th college reunion (June 12-15); to London, Ontario, for the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada (June 22-30); and then taking from July 7 to August 4 as my annual vacation, including a week in Lima, Peru, at a cousin’s wedding. Worship and pastoral care will be capably handled by Terry Hidichuk, Jim Slack, Teresa Danieley, Neil Mancor, Mark Weatherley, and Bob McLachlan.
Thanks to all, and have a wonderful summer!
